After a 3 years wait, we were able to put on our 12th all day show at the King Alfred School, Burnham on Sea, Somerset. There was a good turnout of members and 161 paying visitors to boast our coffers, with 27 children and non paying carers. As all of us are starting to be less athletic, there was a slight reduction in the number of layouts partly due to last minute pull out thanks to Covid, but those present made up by quality.

The largest layout was Chris Batten’s O-gauge clockwork which fitted diagonally across the classroom. This is a multi track layout with many possible paths and included a terminal as an offshoot. As usual, Chris gave instruction to budding young drivers. The rolling stock was pure Hornby and included an array of Dinky toys. There was a small display of Meccano vehicles and this is where Hornby started from.

Rebecca put on a double track 0 gauge electric layout in conjunction with Roy Sinclair. It also had an automatic shuttle train between two stations. As usual the stock was mainly Hornby with some outsiders like Bassett-Lowke and ACE for comparison purposes. Mike Green had a double track layout using Lionel Fast track, demonstrating some of his single-wheelers. Other trains running were rather play worn, but it not necessary for everything to be immaculate. The fun is in playing trains. Click for a larger picture

Steve Sands bought along his module 3 rail Dublo layout, considerably expanded since its last outing, featuring a viaduct, similar to Ribblehead, or the border crossing at Berwick on Tweed. Thus with a through station and fiddle yard it was a comprehensive layout.

The other 3 rail Dublo layout was the regular club set up by Barrie Taylor and gang. Barrie was also offering driving instruction to budding youngster drivers.

The 2 rail Dublo fans were not forgotten with the club layout in action. Complete with plenty of LED flashing lights for police and fire brigade attending burnt out coaches or preventing trespassers on the line.

We must not forget the traders; with plenty of stands selling something for every body. Homemade cakes and tins of biscuits were raffled to boost takings, which benefit charities"

Click for a larger picture It has been agreed to have another show next year, provided the pandemic does not reappear. We put on this event so that the public may share the enjoyment of what we're about. Offers of appropriate layouts, displays or traders to enhance the visitor experience are always appreciated or indeed any offers of help towards the organising and running of the show.
